Sorbera Guitars Features

Inlay

Every inlay we do is custom to your Sorbera Guitar. We can, of course copy an inlay we have done in the past, but since they are all done by hand yours will be as unique as the first one. If you have an idea for an inlay, you can either tell it to us and we will draw a concept drawing of it for you, or you can send us a drawing and we will make it happen.

Rosette

A Rosette is not only there for decoration, it is there to strengthen the wood around the sound hole so it does not split or crack where the wood is weakest. Each Rosette we make is made from the same wood your guitar's back and sides are made of, unless of course you ask for something different. We treat Rosettes as inlays so if you would like a custom one like our Crown of Thorns design, just let us know.

Crown of Thorns

I designed this Rosette/Inlay for my own guitar so I could use the powerful image of a Crown of Thorns to witness Jesus Christ by just playing my guitar. It takes me more than two full days of working to cut and inlay each piece into the top, making sure not to damage the fragile top with my inlay tools. This rosette will set your Sorbera Guitar apart from any other guitar out there. –Chris Sorbera

Electronics

We use the Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup system. We design the guitars to look as good as they work, so with this pickup system there is no 'big plastic' control panel on your guitar to detract from the natural beauty of the wood. There are two control knobs located inside the sound hole so you can adjust the Volume & Tone. However, if you do not need those controls you can request that we leave the knobs off your Sorbera Guitar.

Player Sound Hole

Our Player Sound Hole helps to deliver the sound directly to the player instead of all your tone emitting from the front of the guitar and only sounding good to the people directly in front of the guitar.
Another strength in having a Player Sound Hole on the side of your Sorbera Guitar is the sound is more 'full' with a seemingly 'third dimension' to the tone. The difference in sound is astounding.

What is the drawback to using a Player Sound Hole, and why don't other companies put them on their guitars? I have no idea! The only thing we could think of was for strength, so we put bracing on either side of the hole to protect against this possible problem.

Bridge/Saddle

The bridge & saddle are a very important part of how the guitar sounds and plays. We spend a lot of time on the saddle, making sure it is carved properly to have the correct intonation (playing in tune) and action (string height).
The Saddles we use are made from Tusq, which is an advanced polymer material. Tusq transfers string energy and sustain more consistently and efficiently than other materials we have tried.
Each of the bridge pins are reamed to ensure a tight and even fit.

Truss Rod

We use the Hot Rod 2 way adjustable Truss Rod for our necks.
The Hot Rod provides smooth 2-way action with superior strength. The Hot Rod neck adjustment system features twin rods in threaded brass collars. The stainless steel active rod turns for smooth neck alignment, with 2-way action to correct upbow and backbow.

Wood

No expenses are spared in the acquisition of the woods we use in our guitars. Only the highest grades of hardwoods are used to craft your Sorbera Guitar. Each piece is sanded to the correct thickness to ensure that it is not too stiff or too unstable. No two pieces of wood are the same so we work each piece individually to compliment its natural characteristics to draw the best possible attributes out for both the sound and looks.

Cutaway/No Cutaway

Both look great, good luck choosing! You may just want to get one of each.

Purfling

Purfling is the decoration surrounding the perimeter of guitars. We use dyed maple in combinations of Black & White to bring out the natural lines of our guitars. We enjoy keeping this simple so it accents your Sorbera Guitar instead of overpowering the beauty of the wood.

Finish

We use a new generation of post-catalyzed conversion varnish finishing system that offers the ultimate in durability. The high solids, water white, non-yellowing formula were specifically designed for wood surfaces that are exposed to extreme moisture, heat or chemicals.

Unique Advantages:
  • Thin, hard finish provides maximum protection without dampening your guitar's tone.
  • Extremely clear, looks as if it is part of the wood instead of the polyester finish that most manufacturers use which looks like a clear sheet of plastic laid over the wood.
  • Excellent mar and scratch resistance.
  • Exceptional durability and resistance to alcohol, water and sweat that may come into contact with your instrument.
  • Available in gloss, semi-gloss and satin lusters.

Craftsmanship

Each Sorbera Guitar is built entirely by hand by my brother and me. We are very detailed in our work and take great pride in making every small detail perfect. However, as you probably already know, there is no such thing as perfection in this world. While we strive for perfection, sometimes small imperfections occur. These imperfections are usually just a small aberration in the finish, but your guitar will play and sound better than any other guitars on the market and will be completely unique.
