Inlay, First on a Guitar

We decided on the simple shape of Texas for our first inlay on the Black Limba Acoustic Guitar. I finished inlaying the shape I had already cut out this morning, I think it turned out quite well.

Here are some photos showing the process of how I did it.

First, I clamped the shell there while I painted around it with normal acrylic paint. This would serve as my template for routing.

Then, I went ahead with the routing and finished it up rather quickly.

I cut all the small corners with a chisel while the paint was there.

When I was happy with how the inlay fit, I sanded away the paint.

Then, I used epoxy to glue the shell in. After letting it dry, I did a quick sand to get rid of the excess glue. I still need to fill a few areas in, but all in all it looks great.

I'll post another photo as soon as I get it sanded and filled.
